Urgent request from Michigan!

14 Dec 2018 2:26 PM | Charissa Haines (Administrator)

Do you have family & friends who live in Michigan? Please send this urgent request to them now!

We would like to ask all Michigan residents to contact their State Representative to support SB 683, which will make Michigan the 47th state to license Acupuncture. Michigan Senators passed this bill 33-to-3 in the summer and it will be voted on by all 110 State Representatives before Dec. 20th!

Step #1: Look up your State Rep by address here: http://www.house.mi.gov/MHRPublic/frmFindaRep.aspx

Step #2: Go to their website and copy the following message into their "Contact" page:

Subject: Support SB 683

Dear Representative [NAME]

I am a constituent, and I support SB 683, to convert Registration into Licensure for Acupuncturists.

Acupuncture is one of the fastest-growing healthcare professions in the US, and is one of the few professions that offers non-pharmacological pain management as a safe and effective alternative to opioids.

I think Acupuncturists should be licensed. In America, 46 states require Licensure for Acupuncturists, but only Michigan, along with South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Alabama, have no minimum training requirements for offering acupuncture treatments to the public. This is a clear public safety issue here in Michigan.

Registered Acupuncturists in Michigan have a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and passed the national board exams, but without Licensure they cannot open a Limited Liability Company or operate independently. They cannot even use the word "Acupuncture" in their business name!

SB 683 will convert Registration into Licensure to ensure that this safe and effective alternative to opioids has a future in Michigan.
