Biography
Michael uses a powerful system of acupuncture to alleviate difficult cases of chronic pain. He refined his technique in 2000 while working at a multidisciplinary clinic in New York where he specialized in neck, back and other musculoskeletal problems related to trauma from automobile accidents. In this busy clinic, Michael treated 80-100 patients daily, so he learned how to get good results with very few needles.
From 2006-2010, Michael was given honorary privileges at Colorado's Craig Hospital to treat patients with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries. He also participated in a National Institute of Health study to research the neurological effects of acupuncture on the spinal cord injury population.
Michael thinks many diseases are curable, but what works for one person may not work for another. The beauty of Chinese medicine is that it corrects underlying imbalances causing symptoms, but can also correct these imbalances to prevent the symptoms in the first place, thereby improving all aspects of health. Michael is also well-educated in nutrition and brings this knowledge and passion into his acupuncture practice to help people take better control of their health.
Michael received his Master's Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science, San Diego in 1997. This four-year, 2900-hour program was at the cutting edge of Asian healing arts, with a primary focus on acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The program devoted numerous hours to the study of Western science and medicine, allowing for an integrative approach to modern day illnesses. Michael is certified by the National Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is currently licensed in both Colorado and California. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, and is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Colorado.
In addition to treating all types of pain, Michael also treats stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches, fatigue, hypertension, weight gain, immune system dysfunction, digestive complaints, sinusitis, allergies and female health issues.
Michael is particularly interested in the treatment of lower extremity conditions. From 1998-2008, in addition to his acupuncture practice, Michael traveled around the country as a highly regarded hiking boot and athletic footwear fitter, teaching retail employees, dealers, representatives, and medical professionals about biomechanics, orthoses, modification, and other more professional fit techniques to provide better comfort, health and performance.
Michael has been interested in alternative health and healing from a very young age. In 1980, he began taking massage and Touch for Health (kinesiology) classes and focusing on nutrition and alternative health. In his free time, Michael enjoys snow skiing, mountain and road biking, hiking, and swing (Lindy Hop) dancing.
