    Backupuncture I + II

    With Ben Hawes, LAc

    8 + 8 PDAs (NCCAOM Approved)

    PDA Course #: PDA-9238-1 + PDA-9238-2

    Saturday May 14th + 15th, 2022

Back by popular demand, now with a second day! One or both days can be selected, but day 2 is for those who have already attended Backupuncture I: Let the Spine Be Your Guide (formerly Introduction to Backupuncture) at any point.

Backupuncture® is a system of combining distal points with manual palpation of the spine and meridians for quickly and accurately diagnosing and treating issues relating to vertebral misalignments through any system of distal acupuncture. Distal access of the spine allows for movement and palpation of the injured or diseased area during treatment, thus providing immediate feedback, and learning to diagnose misalignments distally can allow for treatments in cases where the spine is inaccessible, such as the bed or wheelchair-bound, or simply in cases where it is easier to treat supine. Conversely, learning to associate shifts in the spine with the use of distal points found by palpation enhances palpatory skills on acupuncture meridians, and provides immediate feedback to stimulation of points.

    Day 1 Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to

    ·        Correctly palpate misalignments of the spine

    ·        Correlate spinal misalignments with distal points and then palpate the resultant change in the spine after needling the distal points

    ·        Correctly palpate points along the mirrored meridian indicating misalignments both to diagnose and treat them

    ·        Employ multiple distal point systems for use in correcting misalignments

    Day 2 Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to

    ·        Understand how changing the spine through distal points, combined with other major postural point strategies, can ameliorate causes of pain in many other places – often supplanting local work on extremities (esp. lower, e.g. knee and foot pain)

    ·        Use spinal palpation to reveal general nature of points: “open” and “closed”

    ·        Change the spine globally or regionally using Japanese root treatments, Master Tong Dao Ma combinations, or Balance Method strategies.

    ·        Observe how the spine changes during a treatment – the need to make multiple passes, and possible explanations for why

    ·        Communicate a treatment plan – what we are doing, and what we expect to happen

These will be small (12 participants or fewer), intensive hands-on classes. No Zoom fatigue!

Location: Backupuncture of Denver, 925 S. Niagara St., Suite 418, Denver CO 80224

Cost: Early-bird registration is $400 for the weekend of courses ($380 for AAC), and $450/$425 (AAC) thereafter. IF ONLY DOING ONE DAY cost is $225 by 4/15/2022 ($200 for AAC members), $275/$250 (AAC) thereafter.

Register: Please register below. After you submit, you will be redirected to a payment screen. Contact Ben at info@backupuncture.com or 720-370-2711 if you have any issues or questions.

Improve your patient care and practice success by adding natural functional medicine to your acupuncture practice. See better results in less time, earn more income and referrals, and be able to better help modern patients, whose levels of toxicity, inflammation, autoimmunity and stress far exceed that of the patients treated when Chinese medicine was developed. Using lab testing, diet and lifestyle counseling, food- and plant-based supplementation and Western botanicals, you will learn, from our dozen faculty members, an approach congruent with and complementary to Chinese medicine, with faster results and improved patient outcomes.
